So how important is it to have a mobile-friendly website these days? It’s SUPER important. If you are having a new website built and you’re working with a designer or maybe you are building it yourself, make sure you work with a theme or template, namely a WordPress theme, that is mobile-responsive. And what I mean by mobile-responsive is the site is able to change its layout for mobile devices, which will include design elements such as readable text or a drop-down menu instead of a horizontal menu that is hard to see.
If you are using WordPress, most of your updated themes now feature mobile-responsive layouts so you’re not having to style them yourself. I’ll share with you a couple of theme sites to look at a little later in this article, but here are 5 great reasons why your site needs to be mobile-friendly, or mobile-responsive:
1 – Most of your prospects or customers are using mobile devices
One of the most important reasons you need a mobile responsive site is at least 57% of web traffic is being viewed on mobile devices these days. And some of this traffic is coming from your customers and clients. What are you doing for your customers to make your site visible on these devices?
2 – Builds Trust
That same percentage of online web trafficers are reporting that they will not recommend a business that has a poorly designed mobile website. Yikes! You’re losing money on the table if you are not updating your site so it’s mobile-friendly and easy to read!
3 – Be Competitive
Pretty sure your competition has a mobile-friendly experience with their site. Makes sense that you stay ahead of your competition and they choose your business to work with…not your competitors.
4 – Keep Your Reader’s Attention
One important aspect of a mobile-friendly website is that it need to loads quickly. You can’t afford to have a website that takes longer to load. More than half of mobile web visitors will leave your site if it takes more than three seconds to load. This can also apply to your site performance, in general. Sadly, I see more sites load slow than I want to admit to. And as a visitor, I do become frustrated if I’m looking for something quickly and cannot find what I’m looking for.
5 – Makes it easy for your prospects or customers to contact you
The more convenient it is for your customers or clients to reach you, chances are, they will contact you. Having a mobile-friendly website means that your email address and phone number are easy to find and clickable. This is a great option for your customers and for you because it will likely lead to a sale. The more convenient it is for your customers or clients to reach you, chances are, they will contact you. Now that I’ve shared why it’s important to have a mobile-friendly site, here are my favorite WordPress themes that have mobile-responsiveness built right into their builder plugins.
- I use the Divi Theme and Divi Builder for the websites I build for my clients and myself.
- You can also look at iThemes.com for mobile-friendly themes too.
If you already have a theme installed and customized for your website, also take a look at a variety of plugins available that you can integrate with your existing site that will switch your site to be mobile-responsive too.
Okay, I’m off to review my own website on my phone because I’ve been told a couple of elements on my home page are a little off! Oh no! For someone that designs websites, I need to be on top of my site too!
Until tomorrow…Day 3 of the Ultimate Blog Challenge!
