I know this is an interesting topic for a blog post, but it was suggested as one of the themed days from the Ultimate Blog Challenge, so I’m writing about this day in history. Why not? It’s not necessarily business-related, but sometimes we can throw in a fresh and reflective topic every once in a while.
So I googled what happened on January 17 and found this site page: https://onthisday.com/day/january/17
There were some events that I had no clue about, but I could relate that back on January 17, 1991, Operation Desert Storm began with US-led coalition forces bombing Iraq, during the Gulf War. That was definitely a war to remember. That was 18 years ago today. Wow! Just seemed like yesterday this effort all took place.
Out of all the events listed on January 17, this particular one stood out for me…First day Prohibition comes into effect in the US as a result of the 18th amendment, back in 1920. How about that? I knew of the prohibition period through history lessons, but I really didn’t know why it has been enforced. So I found a historical article and it was very interesting how even though the Prohibition had been enforced in all 48 states, people found ways to secretly produce alcohol and we know these folks as bootleggers. To this day, there are still bootleggers every where. And there are still some counties in the U.S. that continue to enforce prohibition. I do know that there are some states that don’t allow free-pour of alcohol, which is interesting in itself. If you want to learn more about the Prohibition period, you can find “10 Things You Should Know About Prohibition”. Definitely a good read!
So what was I doing on this day? Hahaha! Most likely doing what I do best…taking care of two human kids, five fur kids and managing my home-based business. It sounds like a lot, but I’ve managed to balance all of this and still find time to blog. Guess what? It’s what I’ll be doing tomorrow too!
